05. Digital Photography 103

This third course is suitable for anyone interested in black and white photography, regardless of the equipment used. I’m trying to illustrate the fundamentals of a digital B&W photo, and show the most commonly used methods to convert a digital color photo into B&W, using Photoshop. But any other tool would be fine too, the concepts are same.

It is best to view this presentation in slideshow mode, there are a few animations in some slides that you would miss if you go page by page using the navigator. During the presentation I normally do some demo and provide more explanations that can’t be recorded here unfortunately, so take what you can, it’s free anyway…

Here’s the table of content:

  • What is a B&W photo?
  • Digital sensor Bayer Pattern
  • Color filters
  • B&W conversion methods
  • Creative suggestions
  • Many examples
  • B&W tips

This course was written in PowerPoint and exported as web page. You should view the web page with Internet Explorer 6 or higher, no Firefox. Naturally Microsoft only want to support IE and would do anything to make your Firefox or Opera or Safari browsers look bad… If you still use IE5 or lower, please send me an email….. so that I can laugh about it…… :-) Just kidding, if you really really want to see this and can’t find an IE6 around you, let me know, I’ll try to do something for you.

If this course is useful to you, meaning that you’ve learn something from it, I would love to hear your comment about it.
