The lion and the gazelle

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you better start running.

Gazelle Lion

How well is this African proverb describing our current globalized world! We have to run faster and faster everyday. If you don’t run fast enough, you’re death. If you are on the wrong path, you’re death. If you’re on the right path but you’re too slow, the other people will run over your body and you’re death! Welcome to the flattened world.

Globalization has its upside and downside. In short term, some countries will win and some will lose, in long term all countries should win by having a larger global market, some will win less and some will win more. I only hope that long term won’t be too long…
