Shanghai Tan

I took these photos of the old temple of Shanghai, Cheng Huang Miao (城隍庙), at the same day as I went for Xiao Long Bao. Actually the temple was under renovation, and frankly pretty small… so I didn’t take any photo of the actual temple. This site is a must-go for every first-time tourist, so you can imagine the crowd everyday, especially weekend! I was lucky to be there early the morning, but since then I was too lazy to wake up so early just for that.

I was supposed to return there at night for the lights, and then write a nice story around those photos, but after a month I still didn’t have a chance to do that. So I figure I’d better post them here rather then keeping them on my hard drive forever (like TTT uses to do)…

Starbucks is well established at every major Chinese touristic site, they're even willing to adapt their external appearance to fit the site, not like McDonald's!	Another Starbucks around the corner, at the same site!

Low-tech restoration: quiet and less disruption to the site, and cheaper actually...	Considering the tools that they use, being able to restore such a site is an achievement, just like to old time.
A steam machine? I really saw steam coming out at the top left of this machine.	Construction boots and helmet are optional...
No machine here, so they must be moving all these bricks with bare arms and foots!	Two large jewelries.

These two ladies would have been the role model of Maoism - they're making their own broom.	A very Chinese taste street.
Souvenir shops	The pear-shape music instrument is made from a natural fruit called Hu Lu, it could be used as a wine container as well.
