Casual portrait at Xintiandi

We just went for a brunch at Xintiandi [新天地] this noon, weather was excellent, sunlight was soft, ambiance was good, so I pull out my Canon 20D to take a few snapshots of my lovely girlfriend, just some casual poses. We had the brunch at Luna restaurant (not so good), and then had a café latté at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, lovely place, with free Internet access.

I used to own the better Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM before, but lost it in the luggage during transit thru New York JFK airport (not surprisingly), so I bought the cheaper 50mm f/1.8 afterward. I must admit that I am equally satisfied with the photos taken with it, although focusing isn’t as smooth as with USM motor. If I ever upgrade my camera to a full-frame one, I wish I could buy the 50mm f/1.2L, really really nice one, but really really expensive too……..

I’d like to know how you can take so many nice pictures…recently I got a new Canon camera…I’m still playing around with it…but it gives me pixelated pictures…is that what they call “noise” in the pictures? or is there something else I have to look into in order to make my pictures more focused/clear?

Ye, you have to be clear what you mean by “pixelated”, if it’s noise, then set the ISO to lower, like 200 or 100, but obviously you’ll have to shoot in daylight environment, not interior. If, instead, the photo’s resolution seem low (like 800×580), then set the picture quality to large and high, in the camera’s menu. If you really don’t know what it is, send me a sample at info@chekim.com, I’ll try to help.
